Where we shoot in Westchester

Westchester is a wide county with very different jobs depending on where you are. Here's how the map tends to break down for video work:

• White Plains — the county's business core. Corporate events, conference coverage, testimonials and brand films happen in and around the downtown office towers, hotels and the Westchester County Center. Good elevator access and loading docks in most buildings, which matters when you're moving lighting and camera cases.
• Armonk & Purchase — corporate campus country. The office parks here host headquarters, product launches and executive interviews. Campuses are private property, so access is arranged through your facilities or events contact rather than a public permit. Note that Westchester County Airport (HPN) sits right by Armonk, so any drone flight in this area needs airspace clearance (more on that below).
• Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow — Hudson River wedding and event territory. Historic estates and grounds along the river — venues like Lyndhurst and the Tarrytown estates — are built for ceremonies, galas and cinematic drone work over the water.
• Scarsdale, Bronxville & Rye — the luxury residential market. This is where real estate listing video, family events and private celebrations cluster. Rye also gives you Long Island Sound waterfront for exteriors.
• Yonkers & New Rochelle — the county's biggest cities, with waterfront, arts venues and a mix of commercial and community events. Yonkers' Hudson waterfront and New Rochelle's Sound shore both film well.

Getting to Westchester from our DUMBO base

We travel from 68 Jay St in Brooklyn. Depending on where you are in the county and the time of day, that's roughly a 45-minute to 75-minute drive — up the Major Deegan to the Saw Mill for the western towns, or across on the Hutchinson River Parkway toward Rye, Armonk and Purchase. We plan around it: for a morning ceremony or an early corporate call time, we leave with buffer for the Cross Bronx and the parkways, which are the usual chokepoints.

A few things that make the day go smoothly:

• Parking and load-in. On private estates and corporate campuses, tell us where the crew can park and unload — we carry camera cases, lighting and stands, and a dock or a nearby lot saves real time. In downtown White Plains, garage clearance and building loading rules matter; a heads-up lets us pack accordingly.
• Point of contact on site. One person who can let us into the space, point us to power, and flag any house rules keeps setup fast.
• Power and light. Older estate rooms can be dim and short on accessible outlets. We bring our own lighting and batteries, but knowing the room ahead helps us plan.

Because we serve Westchester as a home region rather than a one-off trip, travel is built into the project quote — there's no separate call-out fee.

Permits, insurance, noise and airspace

Most Westchester shoots happen on private property — an estate, a campus, a home, a hotel ballroom — and those are handled through the venue, not a public permit. The venue or your planner sets the rules on access, timing and vendors, and we work to them.

Public spaces are different. Filming in a Westchester County park, a municipal downtown, or on public streets can require a permit from the town or the county parks department, and venues and municipalities routinely ask for a certificate of insurance (COI) naming them as additionally insured before you shoot. We're a licensed, insured company and can provide a COI — just tell us who needs to be named and we'll get it turned around. Give us lead time on public permits; municipal approvals aren't same-day.

Noise and light. Residential towns like Scarsdale and Bronxville have quiet hours and neighbors who notice. For evening events we keep lighting tidy and contained, and we're mindful of amplified sound near homes.

Drone airspace. Our pilots are FAA-licensed and fly under Part 107, but the Armonk and Purchase area sits inside controlled airspace around Westchester County Airport (HPN). Flights there need LAANC authorization, which we secure in advance — so if you want aerials over an estate or campus near the airport, flag it early so there's time to clear the airspace. Along much of the Hudson and Sound waterfront, drone work is more straightforward.

Best hours and seasons to shoot here

Westchester's biggest visual asset is the landscape, so timing matters more than in a studio. For exteriors, drone and estate weddings, the golden hour just after sunrise and before sunset gives you the warm light and long shadows that make the Hudson and the grounds look their best. Midday sun is flat and harsh on open lawns; we plan portrait and aerial windows around it.

Seasonally, late spring and early fall are peak for a reason — comfortable temperatures, full greenery or turning leaves, and reliable light. Autumn along the Hudson is genuinely spectacular on camera and books up fast at the estates. Winter interiors and holiday events shoot well too, but daylight is short, so we build the schedule around an earlier last-light. For corporate work indoors, season matters less; we're driven by your run-of-show and the room's lighting.

How a Westchester shoot works

The process is the same whether you're in Rye or Tarrytown:

1. Tell us the basics. Send your date, the venue or address, and what you need. Email contact@shmong.tv or use the contact form.
2. Get a written quote within 24 hours — usually the same day. It's priced per project, not by the hour.
3. Lock the date. A 50% deposit holds it. There's a $1,000 minimum booking and a 2-hour minimum on site.
4. Pre-shoot plan. We confirm call time, load-in, parking, points of contact, and any permit or COI needs, plus a drone airspace check if you're near HPN.
5. Shoot day. We arrive with buffer for the drive, set up, and film — 4K cinema cameras, wireless lavs, gimbals, pro lighting, and drone if it's in scope.
6. Delivery. Raw footage in 24–48 hours; the finished edit in 5–7 business days, with a 48-hour rush available. You get all raw footage at no charge and two rounds of revisions.
